Key Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality 6G position welding on pipes and structural components using SMAW and FCAW techniques
- Interpret and follow engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding procedure specifications (WPS)
- Prepare metal surfaces by cleaning, grinding, and beveling to ensure proper weld penetration
- Execute pipe welding in all positions (1G through 6G) according to industry standards
- Conduct visual inspections of completed welds and perform basic non-destructive testing (NDT)
- Maintain welding equipment and ensure proper storage of welding materials
- Adhere to strict safety protocols in oil and gas environments
- Collaborate with fabrication teams to meet project deadlines and quality standards
- Document welding activities and maintain quality control records
- Troubleshoot common welding issues and suggest process improvements
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Certification:
- Diploma or Graduation in Welding Technology or related field
- Valid 6G welding certification for both SMAW and FCAW processes
- Additional certifications in ASME Section IX or API 1104 preferred
Experience:
- 1-3 years of professional welding experience in oil, gas, or petrochemical industries
- Proven track record with 6G restricted and open position pipe welding
- Familiarity with welding carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy materials
- Experience working with thicknesses from 3mm to 50mm
Skills & Competencies:
- Expertise in SMAW (stick welding) and FCAW techniques
- Strong understanding of welding symbols and joint configurations
- Ability to pass welding qualification tests on demand
- Knowledge of pre-heat and post-weld heat treatment processes
- Physical stamina to work in demanding industrial environments
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards
- Basic knowledge of welding metallurgy and distortion control
Work Environment & Physical Demands
This position requires working in industrial settings with the following conditions:
- Exposure to high temperatures, fumes, and loud noises (PPE provided)
- Frequent standing, bending, and working in confined spaces
- Ability to lift up to 25kg of equipment and materials
- Working at heights or in awkward positions when required
- 10-12 hour shifts with possible overtime based on project needs
