BA Technician: Oil & Gas Health, Safety & Environment Specialist

Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties

As a BA Technician in our client's HSE department, you will be on the front lines of maintaining a secure and compliant operational environment. Your technical expertise will be crucial for the prevention of incidents and the promotion of a robust safety culture.

Technical Safety Operations

• Conduct routine and complex inspections, maintenance, and troubleshooting of breathing apparatus (BA) sets and associated safety equipment.
• Perform pre-use and post-use checks on all respiratory protective equipment (RPE) to ensure they are operational and safe for use in hazardous environments.
• Execute detailed testing and calibration of gas detection monitors and other atmospheric testing equipment critical for confined space entry and hot work permits.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date service records, logs, and certification documents for all safety apparatus in compliance with company and international standards.

HSE Compliance & Incident Prevention

• Actively participate in daily toolbox talks and safety meetings, contributing insights on equipment status and potential hazards.
• Support emergency response teams by ensuring all BA and life support equipment is instantly available and fully functional during drills and actual emergencies.
• Assist in risk assessments and job safety analyses (JSAs), particularly for tasks requiring the use of breathing apparatus.
• Uphold strict adherence to HSE policies, procedures, and regulations set by Saudi Aramco and other relevant petrochemical industry bodies.

Maintenance & Workshop Management

• Manage the inventory of spare parts for BA sets and other safety devices, initiating procurement requests as needed to avoid shortages.
• Keep the BA workshop and storage areas in a state of impeccable cleanliness and order, following 5S principles.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians and new hires on the proper handling and maintenance of safety equipment.

Candidate Requirements & Qualifications

To be successful in this demanding BA Technician role, the candidate must demonstrate a blend of formal education, specialized technical skills, and a deep-rooted safety mindset.

Mandatory Education & Certification

• A valid certification from an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in a relevant trade (e.g., Instrumentation, Mechanical, Fire & Safety).
• Additional certification in breathing apparatus maintenance or a related safety field is a significant advantage.

Essential Experience & Technical Skills

• A minimum of 5-10 years of proven experience as a BA Technician, specifically within the Oil & Gas or Petrochemical industry.
• In-depth, hands-on knowledge of servicing and maintaining various brands of breathing apparatus (e.g., Draeger, Scott, MSA).
• Proficiency with gas detection systems and understanding of atmospheric testing protocols for O2, LEL, H2S, and CO.
• Familiarity with permit-to-work systems, confined space entry procedures, and other critical safety control measures.
