Position Overview

Vira International Placement Pvt Ltd is seeking an experienced and creative Baker-Pastry Chef to join our culinary team in Muscat, Oman. Baker-Pastry Chef Responsibilities

As our Baker-Pastry Chef, you will be entrusted with a diverse range of duties that encompass both creative and operational aspects of our pastry kitchen. Your primary focus will be on producing high-quality baked goods while maintaining the standards that our customers expect.

  • Execute precise pastry preparation techniques including measuring, mixing, baking, and decorating
  • Develop and create new pastry recipes, desserts, and baked goods that align with our menu concept
  • Prepare a wide variety of breads, pastries, cakes, cookies, pies, and other baked goods daily
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of baking ingredients, their properties, and appropriate substitutions
  • Oversee inventory management, including ordering supplies, monitoring stock levels, and minimizing waste
  • Ensure all baking equipment is properly maintained and operated according to safety standards
  • Implement and maintain strict hygiene and food safety protocols in accordance with local regulations
  • Train and mentor junior kitchen staff in proper baking techniques and pastry preparation methods
  • Collaborate with the executive chef to develop seasonal menus and special dessert offerings
  • Monitor product quality throughout the baking process and make adjustments as needed
  • Maintain accurate production records and implement cost-control measures
  • Create visually appealing displays for pastry products in retail cases

The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional skill in all aspects of pastry arts, from fundamental baking techniques to advanced decorative work. You will be expected to maintain consistency in product quality while continuously innovating to keep our offerings fresh and exciting.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Doctorate degree in Culinary Arts, Baking & Pastry Arts, or related field required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience as a Baker, Pastry Chef, or similar role
  • Comprehensive portfolio demonstrating expertise in various baking techniques and pastry preparation
  • Proven experience in menu development and recipe creation
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience in a commercial kitchen setting

Technical Skills and Knowledge

  • Expert knowledge of baking techniques, including fermentation, lamination, and tempering
  • Proficiency in pastry preparation methods for cakes, pastries, breads, and confections
  • Strong understanding of ingredient functionality and interaction in baked goods
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and HACCP principles
  • Ability to operate and maintain commercial baking equipment
  • Skill in decorative techniques including piping, glazing, and sugar work
