The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient execution of heat exchanger maintenance, specifically the extraction and re-installation of tube bundles using specialized hydraulic pulling systems. Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties
As a Bundle Puller Operator, your expertise will be central to our maintenance and turnaround operations. Your primary duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Safely and proficiently operating advanced bundle pulling equipment, including hydraulic pullers and pushers, to remove and install heat exchanger tube bundles.
- Rigging and preparing heat exchangers for bundle extraction, ensuring all safety and engineering protocols are strictly followed.
- Performing pre-operational inspections and basic maintenance on all pulling equipment to ensure optimal functionality and identify any potential issues.
- Collaborating closely with maintenance supervisors, mechanical engineers, and field technicians to plan and execute pulling sequences for various exchanger sizes and types.
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings, isometrics, and equipment manuals to understand specific job requirements and constraints.
- Adhering to all company and client-specific safety standards, including permit-to-work systems, hazard identification, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Documenting work progress, equipment usage, and any anomalies encountered during operations for reporting and quality assurance purposes.
- Providing guidance and mentorship to junior operators and assistants, fostering a culture of safety and technical excellence on site.
- Troubleshooting common mechanical issues with the pulling equipment and performing minor field repairs to minimize downtime.
Requirements & Qualifications
To be considered for this high-impact role, candidates must meet the following essential criteria:
Education & Certification
- A mandatory ITI (Industrial Training Institute) certification in Fitter, Mechanical, or a directly related trade.
- Certification in heavy equipment operation or rigging from a recognized institution is a significant advantage.
- Valid safety training certificates (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH, or equivalent) are highly desirable.
Experience & Technical Skills
- A proven track record of 5-10 years of direct experience as a Bundle Puller Operator within the Oil & Gas or petrochemical sector.
- Demonstrable, hands-on expertise with the operation of bundle pulling equipment, specifically hydraulic systems from leading manufacturers.
- In-depth knowledge of heat exchanger construction, maintenance practices, and the mechanical principles involved in bundle extraction.
- Strong practical understanding of rigging techniques, load dynamics, and center of gravity calculations.
- Experience working on large-scale industrial shutdowns, turnarounds, and maintenance projects.
