Vira International Placement Pvt Ltd is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chapati Maker to join our esteemed client's kitchen team in the vibrant Wadi Kabir neighborhood of Muscat, Oman. This full-time position is ideal for a culinary professional with a Doctorate level of expertise in traditional Indian bread preparation and a passion for creating authentic, high-quality chapatis. The successful candidate will be responsible for the entire chapati-making process, ensuring consistent quality, taste, and texture that meets our high standards. As a specialist in Indian bread preparation, you will work in a dynamic, fast-paced kitchen environment. Your primary focus will be on producing large quantities of perfect chapatis, rotis, and related flatbreads to support our busy service periods. This hands-on role demands physical stamina, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of flour types, dough consistency, cooking temperatures, and traditional techniques. You will be a key member of the Kitchen department, collaborating with other culinary staff to ensure a seamless and efficient food production process.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

As our dedicated Chapati Maker, your day-to-day tasks will be centered around the art and science of flatbread creation. Your expertise will drive customer satisfaction and repeat business.

  • Prepare dough for chapatis, rotis, and other Indian flatbreads from scratch, ensuring perfect consistency and hydration levels every time.
  • Operate and maintain chapati-making equipment, including tava griddles, dough mixers, and rolling stations, adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Monitor cooking temperatures and times meticulously to achieve the desired texture, color, and puffing of each chapati.
  • Produce high volumes of chapatis efficiently during peak meal times to meet customer demand without compromising on quality.
  • Implement strict hygiene and sanitation standards in the preparation area, following all HACCP and food safety guidelines.
  • Coordinate with the head chef and kitchen staff to forecast bread requirements based on daily menus and customer reservations.
  • Manage inventory of essential ingredients like atta flour, oil, and spices, notifying supervisors when supplies are low.
  • Experiment with and develop new variants of traditional breads to enhance the menu and cater to diverse customer preferences.
  • Train and mentor junior kitchen helpers in the basics of dough preparation and chapati rolling techniques.
  • Ensure all waste is minimized through efficient production planning and proper portion control.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

To excel in this role, the ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of formal education, practical experience, and innate talent for bread-making.

Education & Experience

  • A Doctorate degree in Culinary Arts, Food Science, or a related field is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 3-5 Years of professional experience specifically as a Chapati Maker or in a dedicated Indian bread preparation role.
  • Proven track record of working in a high-volume kitchen, preferably within the hospitality or restaurant sector of the Food & Beverage industry.
  • Experience working in the Middle East, particularly Oman, is a significant advantage.

Essential Skills & Competencies

  • Mastery of the entire chapati-making process: from kneading dough to rolling and cooking.
  • In-depth knowledge of different types of flour (atta, multigrain) and their properties.
  • Ability to work swiftly under pressure while maintaining consistent quality and output.
  • High level of physical stamina and ability to stand for extended periods near heat sources.
  • Strong understanding of kitchen safety, food hygiene, and sanitation practices.
  • Keen eye for detail to ensure every chapati meets visual and taste standards.
  • Team-oriented mindset with excellent communication skills for kitchen coordination.
  • Basic knowledge of inventory management and cost control principles.
