Primary Responsibilities
Our Construction Planning Engineer will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and monitoring project schedules throughout the project lifecycle. You will play a vital role in ensuring that all construction activities are properly sequenced, resourced, and executed according to client specifications and industry standards.
Core Duties
- Develop comprehensive construction schedules using Primavera P6, MS Project, and other planning software
- Create detailed work breakdown structures (WBS) for oil and gas construction projects
- Monitor project progress against established baselines and implement corrective actions when necessary
- Coordinate with project managers to identify critical path activities and potential schedule risks
- Prepare and present regular progress reports, including earned value analysis and productivity metrics
- Collaborate with procurement teams to align material deliveries with construction schedules
- Conduct resource leveling and allocation to optimize manpower and equipment utilization
- Participate in project meetings to provide scheduling insights and recommendations
- Develop and maintain project dashboards for real-time progress tracking
- Implement change management procedures to handle scope variations and their impact on project timelines
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and quality standards throughout project execution
- Coordinate with cost controllers to integrate scheduling and cost control functions
- Develop look-ahead schedules and short-term execution plans for field operations
- Perform delay analysis and recommend mitigation strategies for project recovery
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
The ideal Construction Planning Engineer candidate will possess a combination of formal education, technical skills, and practical experience in oil and gas construction environments.
Education & Certification
- Graduation/Diploma in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Professional certification in project management (PMP, PRINCE2) is advantageous
- Certification in Primavera P6 or similar project planning software preferred
Experience Requirements
- 5-10 years of progressive experience in construction planning within the oil and gas industry
- Proven track record of developing schedules for large-scale industrial projects
- Extensive experience with EPC projects in petroleum refining, petrochemical, or upstream operations
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in fast-paced environments
- Experience working on projects in the Middle East, particularly Saudi Arabia, is highly desirable
Technical Skills
- Expert proficiency in Primavera P6 and MS Project applications
- Advanced skills in MS Excel for data analysis and reporting
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies and sequencing
- Knowledge of risk management principles and techniques
- Familiarity with cost control principles and their integration with scheduling
- Understanding of SAP or other enterprise resource planning systems
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contracts
