Key Responsibilities: Firewatcher and Safety Watch Duties
As a Firewatcher-Standby Man in the Oil & Gas sector, your primary responsibility will be to prevent fires and respond immediately to any fire-related emergencies. Your daily duties will encompass a wide range of critical safety functions:
Fire Prevention and Monitoring
- Continuously monitor hot work activities including welding, grinding, cutting, and other spark-producing operations
- Maintain constant vigilance for potential fire hazards in the work area
- Inspect and ensure the readiness of fire extinguishers, fire hoses, and other firefighting equipment
- Conduct regular perimeter checks to identify and mitigate potential ignition sources
- Monitor atmospheric conditions for flammable gas levels using appropriate detection equipment
Safety Compliance and Documentation
- Enforce strict compliance with the permit-to-work system and hot work permits
- Maintain accurate logs of all fire watch activities and inspections
- Verify that all personnel in the work area adhere to established safety protocols
- Conduct pre-work safety briefings with operational teams
- Participate in safety meetings and contribute to the development of improved safety procedures
Emergency Response
- Remain on high alert and ready to respond immediately to any fire emergency
- Initiate emergency alarms and procedures in case of fire detection
- Operate fire extinguishers and other firefighting equipment as first response
- Assist in the evacuation of personnel from dangerous areas when necessary
- Coordinate with emergency response teams during incident management
Qualifications and Requirements
The ideal candidate for this Firewatcher-Standby Man position will possess a specific combination of education, technical skills, and practical experience in industrial safety:
Education and Certification
- ITI (Industrial Training Institute) certification in a relevant field is mandatory
- Additional certification in fire safety or industrial safety is highly preferred
- Valid fire watch or safety watch certification from a recognized institution
- Basic first aid and CPR certification is advantageous
Experience and Technical Skills
- 5-10 years of proven experience as a Firewatcher, Standby Man, or similar safety role
- Extensive experience in the Oil & Gas industry or similar high-risk environments
- Thorough knowledge of fire prevention techniques and firefighting procedures

- Experience in operating fire detection and suppression equipment
