Primary Responsibilities and Day-to-Day Tasks

Our Gypsum Carpenters are entrusted with a wide range of critical tasks essential to the successful completion of our interior construction projects. Your primary focus will be on the precise and efficient installation of gypsum drywall systems.

Core Gypsum Installation Duties

• Read and accurately interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings to determine layout requirements for gypsum board partitions, ceilings, and other structures.
• Measure, mark, and cut gypsum boards, panels, and metal studs to required dimensions using appropriate hand and power tools.
• Install metal framing (studs and tracks) for walls and ceilings, ensuring they are perfectly level, plumb, and securely fastened according to specifications.
• Skillfully hang, secure, and fit gypsum boards onto metal or wood frameworks, paying close attention to alignment and minimizing waste of materials.
• Create and install curved walls, arches, bulkheads, and other complex architectural features using specialized techniques for bending and shaping gypsum boards.
• Apply tape and multiple layers of joint compound (mud) to seams between boards to create invisible, smooth surfaces ready for painting or wallpapering.
• Execute sanding and final finishing of joints and angles to a high-quality, flawlessly smooth standard.
• Install insulation and vapor barriers within wall and ceiling cavities as specified by project requirements.

Additional On-Site Responsibilities

• Collaborate effectively with other tradespeople on-site, including electricians, plumbers, and painters, to ensure a cohesive workflow.
• Perform on-site material calculations and assist with inventory management to ensure necessary supplies are available.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, adhering strictly to all company and local safety protocols and regulations.
• Conduct quality checks on your own work and report any issues or defects to the supervising foreman immediately.
• Operate and maintain all hand tools, power tools, and equipment responsibly and report any malfunctions.
