Head Cook Responsibilities and Duties

As the leader of the kitchen, your duties will be comprehensive and critical to our success. You will oversee all aspects of food preparation and service.

  • Plan and design menus that are creative, cost-effective, and appeal to our clientele, considering seasonal availability and food trends.
  • Manage and lead the kitchen brigade, including sous chefs, line cooks, and prep cooks, providing training, motivation, and performance feedback.
  • Oversee all food preparation and presentation to ensure the highest quality and consistency across all dishes.
  • Enforce strict health, safety, and sanitation standards in accordance with local Omani regulations and company policy.
  • Manage kitchen inventory, including ordering supplies, monitoring stock levels, and minimizing waste to control food costs and maintain budget.
  • Collaborate with restaurant management and front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service and a positive guest experience.
  • Develop and implement standardized recipes and cooking techniques to maintain consistency.
  • Schedule kitchen staff shifts efficiently to meet operational needs while managing labor costs.
  • Handle and resolve kitchen-related issues promptly, from equipment malfunctions to supplier discrepancies.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new ingredients, and cooking techniques to keep our offerings fresh and competitive.

Requirements and Qualifications for the Head Cook

To excel in this head chef role, you must possess a combination of formal education, practical experience, and soft skills.

Education & Experience

  • A Graduation or Diploma in Culinary Arts, Hotel Management, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of proven experience in a supervisory or head cook role within a high-volume kitchen, preferably in the Food & Beverage industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and processes.

Essential Skills & Competencies
