Key Responsibilities and Duties

As a Heavy Equipment Asst. Mechanic, you will play a critical role in ensuring the operational readiness and reliability of our client's extensive fleet of heavy machinery. Your primary focus will be on supporting senior mechanics in the maintenance and repair of essential equipment used in oil and gas construction projects.

Maintenance & Repair Operations

  • Assist in performing scheduled and preventative maintenance on a variety of heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, cranes, loaders, and graders.
  • Support diagnostic procedures to troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical system failures efficiently.
  • Help dismantle and reassemble equipment components using hand tools, precision instruments, and heavy-duty shop equipment.
  • Change filters, fluids, and other parts as part of routine maintenance schedules to prevent equipment downtime.
  • Work alongside senior technicians to conduct major overhauls and repairs on engines, transmissions, and torque converters.

Workshop & Field Support

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workshop environment in compliance with company and industry safety standards.
  • Provide field service support for equipment breakdowns on construction sites, demonstrating problem-solving skills under pressure.
  • Accurately document all maintenance and repair work performed in equipment service logs and our digital management system.
  • Manage and organize spare parts inventory, ensuring critical components are in stock and readily available.
  • Operate and test heavy equipment after repairs to ensure they meet performance and safety specifications.

Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols, OSHA guidelines, and industry best practices to ensure a zero-accident work environment.
  • Participate in daily toolbox talks and weekly safety meetings to promote a culture of safety awareness.
  • Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure all safety guards and devices are functional on equipment.

Candidate Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this Heavy Equipment Asst. Mechanic role, candidates must meet the following criteria and possess the necessary technical skills and educational background.

Education & Certification

  • A Graduation degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field is mandatory.
