Key Responsibilities and Duties

As a Heavy Equipment Electrician specializing in automotive systems, your primary role will involve ensuring the operational efficiency and safety of our client's extensive fleet of heavy machinery. Your daily tasks will require a deep understanding of electrical diagnostics and repair.

  • Diagnose complex electrical, electronic, and computer-controlled systems in heavy automotive equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, cranes, and heavy-duty trucks.
  • Perform preventative maintenance services and inspections on all heavy equipment to minimize downtime and ensure operational readiness.
  • Read and interpret complex electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals to accurately troubleshoot issues.
  • Repair or replace malfunctioning components, such as sensors, actuators, wiring harnesses, and control modules.
  • Utilize diagnostic software and multimeters to test electrical circuits and systems, identifying root causes of failures.
  • Maintain detailed service reports and documentation for all maintenance and repair work performed.
  • Collaborate with mechanics and other team members to ensure a comprehensive approach to equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols and industry regulations, promoting a culture of safety on the job site.
  • Stay updated on the latest technological advancements in heavy equipment electrical systems and automotive electronics.
  • Manage inventory of electrical parts and tools, ensuring necessary components are available for urgent repairs.

Candidate Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this automotive electrician role, candidates must meet the following criteria and possess the necessary technical skills and qualifications.

Education & Certification

  • Graduation or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications in heavy equipment repair, automotive electrical systems, or electronics are highly desirable.

Experience & Technical Skills

  • A minimum of 5-10 years of proven experience as a Heavy Equipment Electrician, specifically with automotive systems.
  • Expert knowledge of heavy equipment management principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing issues with starting systems, charging systems, lighting systems, and electronic monitoring systems.
  • Strong experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), CAN bus systems, and other electronic control units (ECUs).
  • Ability to use a wide range of diagnostic tools, including OEM software, code readers, and oscilloscopes.
  • Solid understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems as they integrate with electrical components.
