Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties
Our Instrument Technician professionals play a vital role in maintaining the integrity and reliability of complex instrumentation systems throughout our petrochemical operations.
Primary Technical Functions
- Perform routine calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of various instrumentation systems including pressure, temperature, flow, and level transmitters
- Install, configure, and commission new instrumentation equipment according to industry standards and safety protocols
- Implement machine learning algorithms for predictive maintenance strategies to minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance
- Conduct diagnostic tests on control systems, PLCs, and distributed control systems (DCS) to ensure operational integrity
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for all instrumentation systems, including calibration records and maintenance history
- Collaborate with engineering teams to design and implement instrumentation upgrades and modifications
Operational Excellence & Safety
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and procedures in accordance with Oil & Gas industry standards
- Participate in hazard identification and risk assessment activities for instrumentation systems
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for critical instrumentation assets
- Provide technical support during plant turnarounds, shutdowns, and emergency situations
- Train and mentor junior technicians in proper instrumentation maintenance techniques and safety procedures
Innovation & Technology Integration
- Apply machine learning techniques to analyze equipment performance data and predict maintenance needs
- Develop digital twins of critical instrumentation systems for simulation and optimization purposes
- Implement IoT solutions for remote monitoring and control of instrumentation assets
- Collaborate with data scientists to develop advanced analytics solutions for equipment performance optimization
Qualifications & Technical Requirements
The ideal Instrument Technician candidate will possess a combination of formal education, technical certifications, and practical experience in the Oil & Gas sector.
Education & Certification
- ITI certification in Instrumentation Technology or equivalent technical qualification
- Additional certifications in process control, automation, or safety systems preferred
- Formal training in machine learning applications for industrial maintenance (certification preferred)
- Valid certifications in hazardous area operations and safety procedures
Experience & Technical Skills
- 5-10 years of progressive experience as an Instrument Technician in the Oil & Gas or Petrochemical industry
- Extensive hands-on experience with calibration of various field instruments including pressure transmitters, temperature elements, control valves, and analytical instruments
- Proven experience with distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), and SCADA systems
- Demonstrated expertise in implementing machine learning solutions for predictive maintenance and equipment optimization
- Strong background in reading and interpreting P&IDs, loop diagrams, and instrumentation drawings
- Experience with vibration analysis, infrared thermography, and other predictive maintenance technologies
