Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Supervisor – Ammonia Refrigeration Technician to oversee and manage the maintenance operations of our ammonia refrigeration systems in a fast-paced Food & Beverage facility. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of hands-on experience in ammonia refrigeration systems, strong leadership abilities, and a commitment to safety and efficiency.

This role requires a proactive professional who can troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial refrigeration systems while ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.

Job Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the maintenance team to ensure optimal performance of ammonia refrigeration systems.
• Conduct regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on industrial refrigeration equipment.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions, ensuring minimal downtime in production.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including repairs, inspections, and equipment conditions.
• Train and mentor junior technicians on best practices in ammonia refrigeration maintenance.
• Collaborate with production and safety teams to optimize system performance and efficiency.
• Source and manage spare parts inventory, ensuring availability for critical repairs.
• Implement energy-saving initiatives and recommend system upgrades where necessary.
• Respond to emergency breakdowns promptly to minimize operational disruptions.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Essential Skills:

• 5-10 years of hands-on experience in ammonia refrigeration systems within an industrial setting.
• In-depth knowledge of refrigeration cycle principles, compressors, condensers, and evaporators.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for industrial refrigeration systems.
• Experience in managing a maintenance team and coordinating work schedules.
• Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards related to ammonia refrigeration.

Education & Certifications:

• Graduation or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Refrigeration Technology, or a related field.
• Certification in Ammonia Refrigeration (RETA, CARO, or equivalent) preferred.
• Valid HVAC/R or Industrial Refrigeration certification is a plus.

Soft Skills:

• Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle emergency situations effectively.
• Detail-oriented approach to system maintenance and documentation.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

The Maintenance Supervisor – Ammonia Refrigeration Technician will primarily work in an industrial facility with exposure to loud noises, varying temperatures, and mechanical hazards. The role involves:

• Frequent standing, walking, climbing ladders, and lifting heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs).
• Working in confined spaces and at elevated heights when necessary.
• Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirators, gloves, and safety harnesses.
• Occasional overtime and on-call availability for emergency repairs.
