As a Material Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of inventory management, from procurement to distribution, ensuring the seamless flow of materials essential for our oil and gas operations. Key Responsibilities & Duties
The Material Controller will execute comprehensive logistics management with precision and accountability. Primary responsibilities include:
Inventory & Stock Control
- Implement and maintain efficient inventory management systems to track all materials, equipment, and supplies
- Conduct regular stock audits and cycle counts to ensure inventory accuracy and prevent discrepancies
- Develop and enforce material storage and handling procedures compliant with oil and gas industry standards
- Monitor minimum and maximum stock levels, initiating replenishment orders to prevent project delays
- Manage material preservation programs to prevent degradation of sensitive equipment and components
Logistics & Supply Chain Coordination
- Coordinate with procurement team to ensure timely acquisition of materials meeting project specifications
- Liaise with vendors and suppliers to track shipments and resolve any delivery issues or delays
- Oversee material receiving processes, verifying quantity and quality against purchase orders
- Manage efficient material issuance to project sites, maintaining accurate records of allocations
- Coordinate transportation and logistics for material movement between warehouses and project locations
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain comprehensive material records, including certificates, test reports, and compliance documentation
- Generate regular reports on inventory status, consumption rates, and material availability for project planning
- Utilize ERP systems (SAP, Oracle) for material tracking, requisition processing, and inventory management
- Prepare materials reconciliation reports and participate in project close-out activities
- Ensure all material transactions are properly documented and entered into the management system
Operational Management
- Collaborate with project managers to understand material requirements and delivery timelines
- Identify surplus materials and coordinate redistribution or return to vendors to optimize inventory costs
- Implement cost-control measures without compromising on material quality or availability
- Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations for material handling and storage
- Supervise warehouse staff and coordinate with cross-functional teams to support project objectives
Qualifications & Experience Requirements
Education
- Diploma or Graduation in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field
- Additional certifications in inventory management or supply chain (e.g., CPIM, CSCP) are highly desirable
Experience
- 5-10 years of progressive experience as a Material Controller, preferably in the Oil & Gas industry
- Proven expertise in inventory management systems and warehouse operations within industrial settings
- Demonstrated experience with ERP software (SAP MM module experience particularly valued)
- Strong background in material planning, stock rotation, and inventory optimization techniques
- Experience working with international suppliers and understanding of import/export procedures
Technical Skills & Competencies
- Advanced proficiency in inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Thorough understanding of material specifications and standards used in oil and gas operations
- Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret data and generate actionable reports
