Key Responsibilities and Duties
The Mechanical Supervisor will be entrusted with a wide range of critical tasks to ensure the seamless operation of mechanical systems. Key responsibilities include:
- Directly supervise and coordinate the activities of mechanical maintenance technicians and contractors on a daily basis.
- Plan, schedule, and oversee all preventive and corrective maintenance activities for a wide array of mechanical equipment, including pumps, compressors, turbines, engines, valves, and piping systems.
- Ensure all maintenance work is performed in strict compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and international industry standards (e.g., API, ASME, ANSI).
- Diagnose complex mechanical faults, troubleshoot equipment failures, and implement effective, long-term solutions to minimize downtime.
- Manage spare part inventories, initiate purchase requisitions for critical mechanical components, and control maintenance costs within the allocated budget.
- Review and approve maintenance reports, work orders, and equipment history records to track performance and identify recurring issues.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and on-the-job training to junior mechanics and technicians to enhance team competency.
- Liaise closely with operations, planning, and reliability engineering departments to coordinate shutdown activities and ensure alignment on project priorities.
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment and work sites to verify compliance with quality standards and identify potential hazards.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by recommending upgrades, process enhancements, and new technologies to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
To be successful in this Mechanical Engineering supervisory role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Education & Certification
- A minimum of a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required. A Graduation (Bachelor's) degree is highly preferred.
- Relevant professional certifications in mechanical maintenance, safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH), or supervisory skills are a significant advantage.
Experience
- A solid 5-10 Years of progressive experience in a mechanical maintenance supervisory role, specifically within the Oil & Gas, petrochemical, or a related heavy industrial sector.
- Proven hands-on experience with maintenance management systems (SAP PM, Maximo, etc.) and a deep understanding of computerized maintenance processes.
- Demonstrable experience in managing maintenance teams during plant turnarounds and major shutdowns.
Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Expert-level knowledge of mechanical systems, including rotating equipment, static equipment, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
- Strong understanding of precision maintenance techniques, alignment, balancing, and vibration analysis.
- Familiarity with international codes and standards relevant to the oil and gas industry.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, P&IDs, isometric drawings, and equipment manuals.
