Permit Coordinator: Oil & Gas Operations Specialist

Jerry Varghese is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Permit Coordinator to join our dynamic Operations team in the heart of Qatar's thriving Oil & Gas / Petrochemical industry. This is a full-time, on-site position based in the vibrant Souq Waqif neighborhood of Doha, Ad Dawhah. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of Permit to Work (PTW) systems and have a proven track record of 5-10 years ensuring stringent safety and operational compliance within high-risk environments. Key Responsibilities & Duties

As a Permit Coordinator, you will be the central point of control for all work authorization processes, ensuring every task is performed safely and in accordance with the highest industry standards. Your expertise will be vital in maintaining the integrity of our operations and protecting our workforce.

Permit to Work System Management

• Administer, coordinate, and monitor the site-wide Permit to Work system (PTW) as the primary authorized signatory.
• Review, validate, and issue permits for a wide range of activities including hot work, cold work, confined space entry, excavation, and electrical isolation.
• Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) in collaboration with area operators and performing parties.
• Ensure all permits are accurately documented, clearly communicated, and systematically archived for auditing purposes.
• Continuously audit ongoing permitted work to verify strict adherence to the stipulated safety controls and conditions.

Stakeholder Coordination & Communication

• Serve as the key liaison between operations, maintenance, construction, and contractor teams to facilitate seamless work planning and execution.
• Lead daily permit coordination meetings to discuss planned activities, potential hazards, and resource requirements.
• Effectively communicate permit requirements, isolations, and safety precautions to all relevant personnel.

Safety Compliance & Continuous Improvement

• Guarantee full compliance with company-specific safety procedures, Qatari national regulations, and international best practices (e.g., ISO, OSHA standards).
• Investigate and report any deviations or violations of the PTW system and recommend corrective actions.
• Participate in safety walks, audits, and provide expert training to new employees and contractors on the PTW process.
• Identify opportunities to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the permit issuance and tracking process.

Candidate Requirements & Qualifications

To excel in this high-responsibility Permit Coordinator role near Souq Waqif, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Essential Education & Experience

• A Graduation Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a closely related field.
• A minimum of 5-10 years of hands-on experience in a dedicated Permit Coordinator role within the Oil & Gas or Petrochemical sector.
• Extensive, demonstrable expertise in implementing and managing a computerized Permit to Work system.
• Proven experience working on major oil and gas projects or operating facilities.

Mandatory Skills & Competencies

• In-depth knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk control methodologies.
• Familiarity with simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) and managing overlapping work activities.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a meticulous approach to documentation and process adherence.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to be assertive and ensure compliance from all personnel levels.
• Proficiency in relevant software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment and make sound decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

• NEBOSH International General Certificate or equivalent.
• Prior work experience within the Middle East, specifically Qatar.
• Formal training and certification in Permit to Work coordination.
