Pipe Fitter Position Overview

Pipe Fitter Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will perform critical piping installation and maintenance functions within operational oil and gas facilities. Daily responsibilities require precision technical execution and strict adherence to international safety standards.
Primary Technical Duties
- Execute precise pipe alignment procedures using laser alignment tools and traditional surveying instruments
- Install complex piping networks including carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy piping systems
- Interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications for field implementation
- Perform mechanical calculations for pipe supports, expansion joints, and stress analysis
- Coordinate with welding teams to ensure proper fit-up and alignment prior to joint welding
- Conduct hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure tests on completed piping systems
Quality & Safety Compliance
- Implement permit-to-work systems and isolation procedures for live plant modifications
- Adhere to ASME B31.3 Process Piping standards and API industry guidelines
- Participate in HAZOP studies and risk assessment workshops for piping modifications
- Maintain accurate documentation including material traceability and quality inspection records
- Execute preventive maintenance programs for critical piping infrastructure
Pipe Fitter Qualifications & Requirements
Essential Credentials
- ITI Certification in Pipe Fitting or related mechanical trade (mandatory)
- 5-10 years of direct pipe fitting experience in Oil & Gas processing facilities
- Verified portfolio of completed projects in hydrocarbon processing plants
- Comprehensive understanding of international piping codes and standards
Technical Competencies
- Expert proficiency in pipe alignment techniques using optical and laser equipment
- Advanced knowledge of piping components: valves, flanges, fittings, and supports
- Competence in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings
- Practical experience with threaded, socket weld, and butt weld joint preparation
- Familiarity with non-destructive testing methods and acceptance criteria
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to work in extreme desert climate conditions with appropriate PPE
- Capability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting up to 25kg
- Willingness to work extended hours during critical path activities
- Comfort working at heights and in confined spaces with proper safety equipment
