Key Responsibilities & Duties

The Mechanical Planner (Primavera P6) will be responsible for the entire planning lifecycle of assigned projects. Your primary duty will be to develop, maintain, monitor, and analyze the project schedule, serving as a central point of contact for all scheduling matters.

  • Develop, maintain, and update comprehensive and integrated project schedules using Oracle Primavera P6 for all mechanical aspects of Oil & Gas projects.
  • Perform critical path analysis and identify potential schedule delays and bottlenecks, proposing effective mitigation strategies to the project management team.
  • Liaise closely with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, and construction supervisors to gather progress data and ensure schedule accuracy.
  • Prepare and present detailed schedule reports, dashboards, and performance metrics (SPI, CPI) for weekly and monthly project review meetings.
  • Review and incorporate vendor and subcontractor schedules into the main project master schedule, ensuring alignment and coordination.
  • Monitor physical progress against the baseline schedule, updating activities, durations, and logic to reflect the current project status.
  • Assist in the evaluation and scheduling of change orders, assessing their impact on the overall project timeline and critical path.
  • Support the project control manager in the development of project baselines, ensuring all scope is accurately captured and scheduled.
  • Utilize earned value management (EVM) techniques to assess project performance and forecast final completion dates.
  • Ensure all planning and scheduling activities adhere to company policies, client requirements, and international industry standards.

Required Qualifications & Skills

To excel in this planning engineer role in Saudi Arabia, the ideal candidate will possess a combination of formal education, relevant certifications, and hands-on industry experience.

Education & Formal Certification

  • A Graduation or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • Primavera P6 Professional Certification is highly preferred and considered a significant advantage.
  • Additional certifications in Project Management (e.g., PMP, CAPM) or Project Controls are a plus.

Experience & Technical Proficiency

  • A minimum of 5-10 years of proven experience as a Planner/Scheduler, specifically within the Oil & Gas industry or related heavy industrial sectors.
  • Expert-level proficiency in using Oracle Primavera P6 software for creating, managing, and analyzing complex project schedules.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles, construction methodologies, and installation sequences for static equipment, rotating machinery, and piping systems.
  • Demonstrable experience in developing work breakdown structures (WBS) and integrating cost and resource loading into schedules.
  • Strong practical knowledge of project management and controls principles, including earned value management, risk analysis, and change control.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly advanced MS Excel for data analysis and reporting.
