Key Responsibilities & Duties
As a pivotal member of our Project Management department, the Planning Engineer will be responsible for developing, monitoring, and updating detailed project schedules and plans specifically for painting and insulation scopes of work. Your expertise will be critical in ensuring project milestones are met on time and within budget.
- Develop comprehensive baseline schedules for painting and insulation activities using advanced project planning software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project).
- Perform critical path analysis and identify potential delays, proposing effective mitigation strategies to keep the project on track.
- Coordinate with project managers, construction managers, and site engineers to gather progress data and update schedules accordingly.
- Prepare detailed resource allocation plans for manpower, equipment, and materials required for painting and insulation works.
- Generate regular progress reports, dashboards, and presentations for senior management and clients, highlighting achievements, delays, and forecasts.
- Liaise with the estimation team to provide planning input for tenders and new project bids.
- Ensure all planning and scheduling activities adhere to company standards, client requirements, and international best practices for the oil and gas industry.
- Monitor productivity and performance metrics for painting and insulation crews, identifying areas for improvement.
- Participate in project review meetings, providing insightful analysis on schedule performance and trends.
- Integrate the painting and insulation schedule with the overall project master schedule, ensuring seamless workflow and coordination between disciplines.
Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful in this senior planning engineer role, candidates must possess a combination of formal education, specific industry experience, and technical skills.
Education & Experience
- A Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field is mandatory.
- A minimum of 5 to 10 years of proven experience as a Planning Engineer, with a specific and strong focus on painting and insulation activities within the Oil & Gas Construction industry.
- Demonstrable experience working on large-scale EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects in the Middle East, particularly in Qatar, is a significant advantage.
Essential Skills & Competencies
- Expert-level proficiency in project planning and scheduling software, primarily Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
- In-depth technical knowledge of painting processes (e.g., surface preparation, application methods) and insulation materials (e.g., thermal, acoustic, fireproofing) used in oil and gas facilities.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, resource loading, and progress measurement techniques (SPI, CPI).
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective coordination with multinational teams and stakeholders.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced project environment.
- Familiarity with international standards and best practices related to painting and insulation (e.g., NACE, SSPC, ASTM).
