Key Responsibilities & Duties
As a Planning Engineer specializing in Piping, your day-to-day functions will be integral to the seamless execution of our construction projects. You will be the go-to expert for all scheduling and progress tracking related to piping installations.
- Develop, maintain, and rigorously update detailed project schedules for all piping activities using industry-standard software like Primavera P6 or MS Project.
- Collaborate with project managers, piping designers, and construction supervisors to define the scope of work, sequence of operations, and critical path for piping installations.
- Prepare and present comprehensive progress reports, S-curves, histograms, and other project control documents to senior management and clients.
- Monitor physical progress at the construction site, compare it against the baseline schedule, and identify any potential delays or bottlenecks in the piping workflow.
- Perform critical path analysis and risk assessment for piping systems, proposing effective mitigation strategies to keep the project on track.
- Coordinate with the procurement and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of pipes, valves, fittings, and other materials to avoid site disruptions.
- Liaise with the cost control department to align the project budget with the scheduled activities and report any variances.
- Attend client meetings to discuss schedule updates, address concerns, and provide expert advice on planning and scheduling matters.
- Ensure all planning and scheduling procedures comply with company standards and client requirements for the Oil & Gas sector.
Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful in this demanding role within the Oil & Gas construction field, the candidate must possess a strong blend of technical knowledge, practical experience, and soft skills.
Education & Formal Training
- A Graduation/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field is mandatory.
- Additional certification in Project Management (e.g., PMP) or Planning (PSP) is highly advantageous.
Professional Experience
- A minimum of 5-10 yearspiping systems within the Oil & Gas Construction industry.
- Demonstrable hands-on experience in developing EPC schedules for major oil and gas projects, including upstream, midstream, or downstream facilities.
- Must have a thorough understanding of piping isometrics, general arrangement drawings, and material take-offs (MTOs).
Technical Skills & Competencies
- Expert-level proficiency in project planning software, primarily Primavera P6, and MS Project.
- In-depth knowledge of piping fabrication and erection methodologies, standards (ASME, ANSI), and codes.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.
- Excellent command of Earned Value Management (EVM) and other project performance measurement techniques.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills for effective team coordination and client interaction.
