This critical role is based in Al-Naseem, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and is ideal for a professional with 5-10 years of dedicated experience in project planning and scheduling, specifically utilizing Oracle Primavera P6 for complex mechanical engineering projects. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing, maintaining, and analyzing detailed project schedules, ensuring the timely and efficient execution of major oil and gas capital projects, from conception through to commissioning and handover. Your expertise in resource management, progress measurement, and critical path analysis will be key to driving project success and mitigating potential delays in a fast-paced EPC environment.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
As our dedicated Planning Engineer, you will be the central figure for all scheduling and progress reporting activities. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Develop, maintain, and update comprehensive project schedules using Oracle Primavera P6, ensuring alignment with project scope, work breakdown structure (WBS), and deliverables.
- Perform detailed planning and scheduling for all mechanical aspects of oil and gas projects, including static equipment, rotating machinery, piping, and package units.
- Implement robust progress measurement systems (PMS) to accurately track physical progress, manpower productivity, and earned value management (EVM).
- Conduct thorough critical path method (CPM) analysis to identify potential bottlenecks, schedule risks, and opportunities for acceleration.
- Prepare and present detailed schedule reports, dashboards, and performance metrics to project managers, clients, and senior stakeholders.
- Liaise with project managers, leads, and discipline engineers to collect progress data, validate estimates, and incorporate updates into the master schedule.
- Evaluate the impact of change orders, scope revisions, and unforeseen events on the project timeline and recommend corrective actions or recovery plans.
- Participate in project coordination meetings, providing expert schedule analysis and contributing to strategic decision-making processes.
- Ensure all scheduling activities comply with company procedures, client requirements, and international best practices for project controls.
- Mentor and guide junior planning personnel, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement within the project controls team.
Candidate Requirements & Qualifications

Education & Certification
- Essential: A Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Highly Desirable: Professional certification in Primavera P6 or a recognized Project Management certification (e.g., PMP, PMI-SP).
Experience & Technical Skills
- A minimum of 5-10 years of proven experience as a Planning Engineer, specifically within the Oil & Gas, petrochemical, or energy sectors.
- Expert-level proficiency in Oracle Primavera P6 is non-negotiable. Candidates must demonstrate hands-on expertise in building and managing complex schedules.
- Demonstrable experience in planning for EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects, with a strong focus on mechanical disciplines.
- In-depth understanding of mechanical construction methodologies, sequence of operations, and industry standards.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in schedule risk analysis (SRA), delay analysis, and what-if scenario planning.
- Proficiency with other project control software (e.g., MS Project) and a high degree of competency with MS Office Suite, particularly Excel for data analysis.
