Key Responsibilities & Duties

As a Planning Engineer specializing in structures, your primary function will be to create and maintain the master timeline for all project phases, from initial conception to final commissioning. Your analytical skills will be paramount in driving project success.

  • Develop, maintain, and meticulously update detailed project schedules using advanced software like Primavera P6 and MS Project, integrating all structural engineering activities.
  • Perform critical path method (CPM) analysis to identify potential bottlenecks and proactively recommend solutions to mitigate delays in the construction lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, structural designers, and construction teams to gather progress data and validate the accuracy of the project timeline.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive weekly and monthly progress reports, dashboards, and earned value management (EVM) metrics to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Monitor resource allocation (manpower, equipment, materials) against the baseline schedule to ensure optimal utilization and identify any constraints for structural works.
  • Conduct detailed risk analysis for the structural scope of work, assessing the impact of potential delays and proposing robust contingency plans.
  • Review and incorporate client and contractor schedules into the master project plan, ensuring alignment and coherence across all project execution teams.
  • Participate in project coordination meetings, providing expert insights on schedule status, forecasting, and potential recovery plans for any slippages.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to schedule adherence, productivity, and milestone achievement for structural packages.
  • Maintain a rigorous document control system for all scheduling-related documents, including baselines, updates, and change orders.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience Requirements

To excel in this structural planning role within the oil and gas industry, the candidate must possess a blend of formal education, proven technical expertise, and hands-on site experience.

Education & Certification

  • A Graduation or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Advanced certification in project planning and scheduling (e.g., PMI-SP, CCP) is highly desirable and will be considered a significant advantage.
  • Formal training and certification in Primavera P6 is mandatory for this engineering position.

Professional Experience

  • A minimum of 5 to 10 years of proven experience as a Planning Engineer, specifically focused on structural works within the oil and gas construction industry.
  • Demonstrable experience working on large-scale EPC projects, such as gas plants, offshore platforms, pipelines, or refinery structures.
  • Strong familiarity with international standards and codes relevant to oil and gas construction (e.g., API, AISC, ASTM).

Technical Skills & Competencies

  • Expert-level proficiency in Oracle Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project for creating complex, multi-tiered project schedules.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, reporting, and creating custom tracking tools.
  • In-depth understanding of structural engineering principles, construction methodologies, and sequencing for industrial projects.
  • Solid knowledge of earned value management systems and techniques for measuring project performance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective liaison with diverse project teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced project environment.
