Key Responsibilities & Duties
As a QA-QC Welding Engineer near me in Doha, your primary focus will be on maintaining and auditing the quality management system related to welding activities. Your day-to-day tasks will encompass a wide range of critical quality functions.
Welding Quality Assurance & Control
- Review and approve contractor method statements, inspection test plans (ITPs), and welding procedure specifications (WPS/PQR) before commencement of work.
- Perform thorough visual inspections (VT) of welds and verify dimensions against isometric drawings and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
- Oversee and witness all non-destructive testing (NDT) activities such as Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT), and Dye Penetrant Testing (DPT), interpreting results to ensure compliance.
- Monitor and audit welding processes, including pre-heat, inter-pass temperature, and electrode control, to ensure adherence to approved procedures.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all welding activities, inspections, tests, and reports for traceability and audits.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure strict compliance with international codes and standards such as ASME Section IX, API 1104, AWS D1.1, and client-specific specifications.
- Manage the documentation and certification of welders and welding operators, ensuring their qualifications are current and valid for the specific processes being used.
- Issue and track non-conformance reports (NCRs) and corrective action requests (CARs), following up to ensure timely and effective closure of quality issues.
- Liaise with clients, third-party inspectors, and certification authorities, providing all necessary documentation and facilitating client inspections.
Auditing & Continuous Improvement
- Conduct internal and supplier audits to assess compliance with the project quality plan and relevant QA/QC standards.
- Participate in root cause analysis for any welding-related defects or failures and recommend preventive measures.
- Promote a culture of quality and safety within the project team, providing training and guidance on welding quality requirements.
Requirements & Qualifications

Education & Certification
- Education: A Graduation/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Welding Engineering, or a closely related field is mandatory.
- Certifications: Possession of valid international welding certifications (e.g., CSWIP 3.1, AWS CWI/SCWI, BGAS-CSWIP) is highly preferred and considered a significant advantage.
- Certification in NDT methods (e.g., ASNT NDT Level II in UT, RT, MT, PT) is highly desirable.
Experience & Technical Skills
- A minimum of 5-10 years of proven experience as a QA-QC Engineer with a dedicated focus on welding inspection within the Oil & Gas sector.
- In-depth, practical knowledge of international QA/QC standards, codes, and best practices (ASME, API, AWS).
- Extensive hands-on experience with welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW) and NDT techniques.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, isometrics, P&IDs, and welding symbols.
