Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties
As a QA-QC Welding Inspector, your expertise will be pivotal in maintaining the structural integrity and safety of our operations. Your primary responsibilities will encompass a wide range of quality assurance and quality control activities specific to welding processes.
- Perform thorough inspections of welding activities and procedures to ensure strict compliance with project specifications, international codes (ASME, API, AWS), and company QA/QC standards.
- Review and approve welding procedure specifications (WPS), procedure qualification records (PQR), and welder qualification tests (WQT) to validate personnel and method competency.
- Conduct visual inspections (VT) of welds and materials, identifying and documenting any discontinuities such as cracks, porosity, or undercut according to acceptance criteria.
- Coordinate and witness various non-destructive testing (NDT) activities, including Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT), and Dye Penetrant Testing (DPT), interpreting results accurately.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate inspection records, reports, and quality documentation for all welding operations, ensuring full traceability and audit readiness.
- Monitor and verify that all welding consumables are stored, handled, and used in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and project requirements.
- Liaise directly with engineers, clients, and third-party inspectors to resolve any quality-related issues, providing technical guidance on welding quality matters.
- Initiate and track non-conformance reports (NCRs) when defects are identified, overseeing the implementation of corrective and preventive actions until closure.
- Perform mandatory in-process and final inspections, ensuring all welded components meet the defined quality benchmarks before approval for the next stage.
- Promote a continuous culture of safety and quality on-site, adhering to all company and client Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies.
Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful in this demanding role, the candidate must meet the following criteria and possess the necessary qualifications and certifications.
Essential Education & Certifications
- A Graduation or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Metallurgy, or a closely related field.
- Valid international certification as a Welding Inspector (e.g., CSWIP 3.1, AWS CWI/SCWI, or equivalent) is mandatory.
- Certification in NDT methods (e.g., UT, RT, MT, PT) at Level II will be a significant advantage.
- Formal training and certification in relevant Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) practices.
Mandatory Experience & Skills
- A minimum of 5-10 years of hands-on experience as a QA-QC Inspector with a specific focus on welding within the Oil & Gas industry, particularly on refinery, pipeline, or offshore projects.
- Profound knowledge of international welding codes and standards including ASME Section IX, API 1104, AWS D1.1, and relevant ISO standards.
- Extensive practical experience in interpreting engineering drawings, isometric drawings, P&IDs, and welding symbols.
- Proven ability to utilize a wide array of inspection tools and equipment, such as calipers, micrometers, weld gauges, and NDT equipment.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail to identify potential quality issues before they escalate.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective reporting and liaison with multidisciplinary teams.
- High level of computer literacy, with proficiency in MS Office applications and common quality management software.
