Rigger III Key Responsibilities
The Rigger III will be tasked with complex rigging operations in the Oil & Gas construction environment. Key duties include:
- Plan and execute complex rigging operations for heavy equipment installation and movement in refinery and oil field settings
- Calculate load weights, center of gravity, and determine appropriate rigging gear requirements
- Select, inspect, and maintain all rigging equipment including slings, shackles, hooks, and turnbuckles
- Direct crane operators using standard hand signals and radio communication for precise load positioning
- Implement and enforce strict safety protocols in accordance with company and industry standards
- Supervise and mentor junior riggers and ground personnel in proper rigging techniques
- Coordinate with construction managers, crane operators, and other trades to ensure efficient workflow
- Secure loads for transport using appropriate tie-down methods and equipment
- Perform routine inspections of rigging equipment and document findings as required
- Develop lift plans for complex or critical lifts requiring additional engineering review
- Maintain accurate records of equipment certifications, inspections, and maintenance activities
- Respond immediately to any safety concerns or incidents and participate in investigations as needed
Rigger III Qualifications and Requirements
The ideal candidate for this Rigger III position will possess the following qualifications:
Education & Certification
- Graduation/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field
- Certified Rigger Level III accreditation from recognized authority
- Valid crane signaling certification
- Rigging equipment inspection certification
- Complete OSHA or equivalent safety training specific to rigging operations
Experience Requirements
- 5-10 years of progressive experience in rigging within the Oil & Gas industry
- Demonstrated experience with complex heavy lifts in refinery or petrochemical environments
- Proven track record of working with various crane types and capacities
- Extensive knowledge of rigging mathematics and physics principles
- Experience mentoring junior riggers and leading rigging crews
Technical Skills
- Expert knowledge of rigging gear specifications, limitations, and applications
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, lift plans, and load charts
- Advanced understanding of load dynamics, center of gravity, and leverage principles
- Familiarity with all relevant safety regulations and industry best practices
- Ability to perform precise calculations for load weight, sling angles, and tension
- Competence with various communication methods including hand signals and radio protocols
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces as required
- Capacity to lift 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks in extreme weather conditions
- Visual acuity to accurately assess rigging setups and identify potential hazards
- Comfort working in oil refinery environments with appropriate safety equipment
