Key Responsibilities
As a Safety Officer at Jerry Varghese, you will be entrusted with comprehensive safety management duties within our Oil & Gas operations. Your primary focus will be implementing and maintaining rigorous safety protocols that protect our workforce, assets, and environment.
Daily Safety Operations
- Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with HSE standards
- Develop, implement, and monitor effective safety policies and procedures specific to petrochemical environments
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions
- Maintain detailed records of safety inspections, incidents, and compliance activities as required by Qatari regulations
- Coordinate emergency response procedures and conduct regular drills to ensure preparedness
Risk Management & Compliance
- Perform comprehensive risk assessments for all operations, particularly focusing on high-risk activities in oil and gas processing
- Ensure compliance with Qatar's regulatory requirements and international safety standards (ISO 45001, etc.)
- Monitor and control permit-to-work systems for hazardous operations including hot work, confined space entry, and height work
- Evaluate contractor safety programs and ensure all third-party personnel adhere to site safety requirements
- Maintain current knowledge of emerging safety legislation and industry best practices
Training & Safety Culture Development
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels, focusing on hazard recognition and prevention
- Promote strong safety awareness throughout the organization through regular communications and safety campaigns
- Lead safety committee meetings and encourage active employee participation in safety initiatives
- Mentor junior safety personnel and provide technical guidance to operational teams
- Implement behavioral safety programs to foster a proactive safety culture
Position Requirements
Education & Certification
- ITI certification in Industrial Safety or related technical field (required)
- Additional certifications in NEBOSH, IOSH, or OSHA highly preferred
- Specialized training in Oil & Gas safety procedures and standards
- Valid Qatari driver's license and ability to travel to various site locations
Experience & Skills
- 5-10 years of progressive experience as a Safety Officer in the Oil & Gas or Petrochemical industry
- Demonstrated expertise in safety awareness and hazard identification in high-risk environments
- Proven track record in implementing HSE management systems within energy sector operations
- Strong knowledge of process safety management (PSM) and hazard operability studies (HAZOP)
- Experience with incident investigation methodologies (Root Cause Analysis, TapRoot, etc.)
- Familiarity with fire protection systems, personal protective equipment, and emergency response planning
