Key Responsibilities & Duties

As a Shuttering Carpenter with our company, your primary focus will be on the precise installation and dismantling of formwork systems. Your daily tasks will encompass a wide range of carpentry duties specific to concrete construction.

Primary Formwork Duties

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements for concrete formwork.
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join wood, plywood, and other materials to construct concrete formwork for foundations, columns, beams, slabs, and other structural elements.
  • Prepare layouts in conformance with building codes, using measuring tools and equipment to precise specifications.
  • Erect and install horizontal and vertical wooden concrete forms for pouring cement.
  • Install and align reinforcing rods and steel mesh in forms to reinforce concrete structures, collaborating with steel fixers.
  • Install anchoring devices, brackets, and other fixtures required for formwork stability and security.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair existing concrete forms and shuttering systems to ensure reusability and structural integrity.

Site & Safety Operations

  • Coordinate with site engineers, supervisors, and other construction professionals to ensure project timelines are met.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of formwork materials, tools, and equipment, reporting any shortages or defects.
  • Strictly adhere to all on-site safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and participating in safety briefings.
  • Identify and report any potential hazards or safety concerns related to formwork installation and site conditions.
  • Ensure a clean and organized work area, properly storing tools and materials to prevent accidents and tripping hazards.
  • Supervise and assist laborers in the pouring of concrete to prevent damage to forms and ensure correct placement.
  • Strip forms from concrete after it has set, using care to avoid damage to the concrete surface or the formwork itself.

Qualifications, Skills & Requirements

To be successful in this Shuttering Carpenter role, candidates must meet the following criteria and possess a specific set of skills honed through practical experience.

Mandatory Requirements

  • An ITI certification in Carpentry or a closely related field is required.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of proven professional experience as a Shuttering Carpenter or Formwork Carpenter, specifically within the construction industry.
  • Demonstrable, hands-on expertise in all aspects of concrete formwork installation, including flying forms, table forms, and tunnel forms.
  • Physical fitness and stamina to perform demanding manual labor, including lifting heavy materials, climbing, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.
  • Must be able to relocate to or reside in Salalah, Oman, for this full-time, on-site position.

Essential Technical Skills

  • Expert knowledge of wood and plywood properties, as well as other formwork materials like steel and aluminum.
