Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties
As a 6G pipe welder, your expertise will be central to the construction and maintenance of critical infrastructure. Your daily responsibilities will encompass a wide range of technical and safety-oriented tasks.
- Perform high-quality welding operations on pipes and structural components in the challenging 6G position (fixed pipe inclined at 45 degrees).
- Execute various welding processes including Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG), and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG) on both stainless steel and carbon steel materials.
- Read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, isometric drawings, welding procedure specifications (WPS), and procedure qualification records (PQR) to determine precise welding requirements.
- Set up, operate, and maintain all welding equipment, including power sources, torches, wire feeders, and regulators, ensuring they are in optimal working condition.
- Inspect and prepare materials for welding by performing tasks such as grinding, cleaning, beveling, and fit-up to ensure proper alignment and penetration.
- Rigorously adhere to all company safety policies, industry standards (e.g., ASME, API), and quality control procedures to ensure a zero-incident work environment.
- Perform self-inspection of completed welds, identifying any defects such as porosity, undercut, or cracking, and performing repairs as necessary to meet strict acceptance criteria.
- Collaborate effectively with fabricators, fitters, inspectors, and other team members to complete projects on schedule and to the highest quality standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in the workshop or at the job site, demonstrating a strong commitment to workplace safety and 5S principles.
Required Qualifications & Skills
To be successful in this welding role within the Oil & Gas sector, candidates must possess a combination of formal education, professional certification, and extensive practical experience.
Education & Certification
- ITI (Industrial Training Institute) certification in Welding or a related field is mandatory.
- Valid 6G certification for both stainless steel (SS) and carbon steel (CS) is essential. Certifications from recognized international bodies are highly preferred.
Experience & Technical Skills
- A minimum of 5-10 years of proven experience as a 6G welder, specifically within the Oil & Gas, petrochemical, or power generation industries.
- Demonstrable expertise in pipe welding using SMAW (Stick), GTAW (TIG), and GMAW (MIG)
